there are some nights where beauty is found among ashes…
those nights come out of the blue and sweep you off your feet. you are completely unaware of its coming. because despite the hard conversations, the sadness in their eyes, the bad news—the heartache, nights like tonight bring clarity. amongst dear friends hearts are shared. shared in sugar stuffed desserts, coffee, childhood movies, and pavement. our hearts are warmed by each other in spite of the heaviness they contain and carry so carefully. lips open, sometimes they bear the wrong words, regardless maybe those words are necessary to some extent. eyes glide side to side, up and down, sometimes hiding secrets while other times exposing a fragile ache in the soul.
late into the night laughter can be heard. sleep invades, however, heavy eyelids fight the urge to give into exhaustion— because sometimes you just want to—need to—forget all the bad stuff, just for a night, or perhaps just a few hours. so you resist the urge to fade into soft sheets and squishy pillows because you need the antidote of tonight. you desperately need to be surrounded by “happy people,” or. rather, broken people who somehow, together, make each other smile despite the grey.
Nights like tonight simply happen. they cannot be planned, they cannot be forced, they come out of the blue—and sweep you off your feet.
